Happy Birthday, Lyla Grace.

Our baby turned 1! This year has been the best year of our life, and we know it only gets better. Lyla has taught us the true meaning of patience, she has showed us how to slow down and simply take in life, and most of all, what it means to be parent and the enormous amount of love that fills your heart. There are days when I literally feel my heart beat differently, when I think about how much I love her.

We chose not to have a big birthday party for her. Instead we had an amazing day together. It was a great decision.

Lyla started celebrating her birthday on the 27th with cake and ice cream at Pop & Marmee's.... I wasn't there to take pictures, but I heard she had SO much fun, she couldn't even sleep! She shared the special night with her Aunt JenJen of course (they have the same birthday)!

Yesterday, we went to Red Robin with Aunt Laura. Lyla acted as if the whole restaurant showed up to celebrate her birthday. She was all giggles (even when she knocked over a glass of water and her balloon floated to the ceiling and slowly came back down). Eric somehow talked Laura into coming back to our house to help me put Lyla's present together. FYI, it came in 48 parts! Thank you so much Laura.

Our night ended around 11pm. Laura & I enjoyed a Sparkletini, for all our hard work, of course!

Lyla was being super lazy on her birthday, so at 10:45 am Eric decided we should wake her up. We went into her room and sang, "Happy Birthday!"

She looked at us like we were nuts. So we quickly changed her diaper and gave her breakfast.

How old are you today?

After breakfast, Eric & I took her downstairs so she could see her birthday present...

She already looks like me in the kitchen... on her tip toes! Let's just hope she cooks a little more.

After she played for a little while, we headed over to my moms, where she "partied" with her grandmother, April & Kirsti. She was spoiled with lots of presents & coffee cake!

I would have to say, her favorite gift was the pearl necklace, that belonged to her "Nanu."

After my moms we headed to the Baltimore Aquarium. We had to 'park' our stroller, but in exchange, the aquarium offers a child-back pack. It was a really nice one, and Lyla sat high enough that she could see over Eric. She just chilled and looked at all the fish (etc.).

The highlight of her day was the dolphin show. She ate some snacks before it started and then thoroughly enjoyed herself. She clapped the whole time. We watched the amazement on Lyla's face more than the dolphin show. It was so cool.

We picked her birthday cake up on the way home from the Aquarium & stopped by Grandpa Moe & Grandma Kim's house to share it with them. Her grandfather did all he could to make sure she was covered in chocolate! The little princess was just poking her fingers in the cake, so he had to 'help her out' by smearing it all over her face! Good thing Grandma Kim got her lots of cute clothes, because she had to wear a new outfit home!
